Nannup District High School
Nannup DHS is very proud of its Music Department. The school is very supportive of the arts and over the past year it has invested thousands of dollars in the Music Department. The school has also received generous donations this year. These donations have enabled us to purchase a set of Yamaha brass instruments and an alto saxophone for use by our students. The school would like to thank and recognise donations from Mr Charles Gilbert and from the Nannup Music Club Inc.
We now offer free instrumental tuition to all Year 5 students at the school and provide loaned instruments free of charge to our students. Nannup DHS’ level of support for music is unparalleled to any other school in the southwest. Students enrolled in the instrumental program receive free tuition on their chosen instrument for the remainder of their Primary/Secondary schooling (regardless of the state school that they attend for Year11/12).
Music students perform at a variety of concerts throughout the year including the Nannup Music Festival, Geographe Bay Music Workshop, Flower and Garden Show and Presentation Night. Nannup DHS has also funded several workshops that are provided free to students at the school. These have included workshops with Steve Ellis, Kaboom Percussion (Catherine Betts and Joshua Webster), Monique diMattina and various artists at the Bridgetown Blues Festival. The Nannup DHS Music Department has also collaborated with students from a state school in Mayotte (an island off the east coast of Africa).
Students can learn a great variety of instruments at Nannup DHS. Trish Wintergreen teaches the classroom music program and directs the school’s choir. She also provides private lessons on piano and voice to our primary students. Joh Nordstrom teaches brass (trumpet, trombone and baritone) and percussion. David Parkinson directs the school’s bands and teaches clarinet, saxophone and guitar. Throughout the past 2 years the music department has received funding from `Instrumental Music School Services` to provide tuition to our woodwind, brass and percussion students.
We hope you enjoy our performance!
