Odette Mercy and Her Soul Atomics
Odette Mercy & Her Soul Atomics are like a gritted up old Stax record come to life. OM&hSA have been no stranger to life’s lessons and heartbreak. Entwined with a pervasive thread of social commentary, their experiences and reflections form the foundation for their writing; songs which are brutally honest, but tell a personal story of love and life through soul-filled heavy groove.
Odette Mercy and her Soul Atomics have a list of nominations under their belt. From WAM (West Australian Music) awards to national nomination in NLMA and then to ‘Ofa’s nomination in the state rounds for Best Live Voice. Odette Mercy took out Best Vocalist.
Odette Mercy & her Soul Atomics is the original music project of Johnny Nandez and Odette Mercy. Booking their very first gig in 2008 (a month-long weekly residency) without a single song written, resulted in a 6-piece soul ensemble complete with guitar, rhythm section, horns and two sets worth of original songs. It was a long-time ambition for Nandez and the first foray into fronting an original band for Mercy.
Of Tongan heritage, Australian born ‘Ofa Fotu is an incredible soul singer, storyteller and visual artist. Best known as a collaborator and ensemble member of Hot Brown Honey and as frontwoman of funk/soul band Odette Mercy and Her Soul Atomics as Odette instantly captivates audiences with her remarkable vocal range.
Johnny Nandez lives and breathes music. He is a Bandleader, Composer, Arranger, Songwriter and Educator. He has grown within, and given directly to, the local music scene. He plays with Little Lord Street Band, Stone Cold Super Friends and Late Night Organ Donors. A multi-instrumentalist, Johnny Nandez is the Musical Director, Bassist and Producer of Odette Mercy and her Soul Atomics.
